Army Band musician to present Veterans Day address in Creighton Monday

Creighton Community Schools will host the 2018 Veterans Day Program at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the school gymnasium.

Sergeant Kimberly Meyer, an enlisted member of the South Dakota Army National Guard, will present the keynote address.

Meyer is a 2006 CHS graduate and the daughter of Everett and Linda Meyer of Royal. She serves as a musician in the 147th Army Band based out of Mitchell, S.D., performing in both military and community concerts as the lead vocalist in the 147th’s country/classic rock band and as the first-chair clarinetist in the concert and marching bands.

Bryce Zimmerer, student body president, will lead recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Creighton high school band and choir, under the direction of Curtis Stevens and Deb Van Metre, will present musical numbers.

Zimmerer and Brittani Pospisil will present their Voice of Democracy Contest speeches.

Meyer will also speak at a program planned at Avera Creighton Care Centre, following the program at the school, starting at 10:30 a.m. Saint Ludger Elementary students will participate.

The American Legion Riders will recognize ACCC resident veterans at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the nursing home.
