Fuchtman is Elementary Teacher of the Year

Jay Fuchtman, a long-time science teacher at Creighton Community Schools has been named the 2019 Elementary Teacher of the Year.

The award was presented recently by Jean Henes, daughter of Merritt and the late Gerry Warren.

Merritt Warren established the award in memory of his late wife, through the Creighton Community Foundation, to honor a Creighton elementary teacher each year.

Fuchtman was selected for the honor by his fellow teachers.

A graduate of Creighton High School, Fuchtman has been teaching for 42 years, joining the Creighton team in August 1980.

He currently teaches elementary and junior high physical education and eighth grade science.

Fuchtman obtained a bachelor’s degree at Yankton College in Yankton, S.D., in 1977.

He earned a middle school science endorsement from Wayne State College in 1985.

He and his wife, Jill, have two grown sons, Blake Fuchtman and Adam Fuchtman.
