Edward died Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at Alpine Village in Verdigre.

Edward V. Dufek, son of George and Clara (Ondracek) Dufek, was born Nov. 21, 1928, on his parents' farm northeast of Verdigre. Ed attended country school District #140 until the eighth grade and then stayed home to work on the farm.

On June 5, 1951, Ed was united in marriage to Carmen Kemnitz at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They were blessed with four children, Duane, Dwight, MaryAnn and Neal.

Ed loved farming and raising cattle and hogs. In the early 1960s, Ed and Carmen also built a state-of-the art all-electric laying house, raising more than 10 thousand chickens a year. He was a Vigortone feed salesman as well, and enjoyed his customers very much.

Ed loved spending time with his grandkids showing and teaching them about the farm. After retiring from farming, Ed and Carmen moved to Verdigre, where Ed enjoyed working for Herbert Feed and Grain. He and Carmen enjoyed going to dances and playing cards with friends and family. Ed had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a joke or two with everyone.

Ed is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carmen; sons and spouses, Duane (Rita) Dufek of Battle Creek, Dwight (Nancy) Dufek of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Neal (Anne) Dufek of Creighton; daughter and spouse, MaryAnn (Mark) Snelson of Fremont; grandchildren, Amie Dufek (Chris Everard) of College Park, Ga., Tom Dufek of Omaha, Ashlee (Chris) Kittel of Duncan, S.C. and Dan (Megan) Dufek of Lincoln; step-grandchild, Janelle (Burton) Bosan of Omaha; two great-granddaughters, Blair and Elliot Dufek of Lincoln; two stepgrandchildren, Artavia and Burton Jr. Bosan of Omaha; sister, Helen Hanefeldt of Creighton; sisters-in-law, Doris Dufek of Norfolk and Ellen Dufek of Verdigre; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brothers, William, Leonard and John; sisters, Marie Shefl, Clara Pavlik and Leona Pavlik.
