Funeral services for Alvin Friesz, 84, of Creighton will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Creighton. The Rev. Terry Huber will officiate, with burial at a later date, in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1151, American Legion Post 74 and Army National Guard honor guard.

Visitation will be Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Alvin died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at Plainview Manor in Plainview.

Alvin Christian Friesz, son of Robert and Anna (Roth) Friesz, was born Oct. 16, 1934, at Bismarck, N.D. He attended school until the eighth grade. On Nov. 3, 1971, Alvin married Doris Dieck at Albion. Three children were born to this union, Douglas, Denise and David. He was also blessed with two stepdaughters, Debra and Diane.

Alvin was a bull rider and bareback rider in rodeos during his earlier years. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Alvin was stationed in the transportation division of the Army.

Alvin lived at Howells for 20 years before moving to Creighton. He enjoyed farming with Doris, especially raising hogs and milking cows. He worked for Bloom N Egg - Michael Foods Inc. for 13 years. At age 70, Alvin retired from Michael Foods and, together with his son, Doug, owned and operated D&A Lawn Service.

Alvin was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills. He was also a 4-H leader for the High Top 4-H Club and a member of the 81-91 Pork Producers. Once in a while, you could find him with a fishing pole in his hand.

Alvin is survived by his sons, Doug Friesz of Creighton and David (Traci) Friesz of Pierce; daughters, Deb (Bill) Cornelius of West Monroe, La., Diane (Roland) Hidy of Trenton and Denise (Mike) Dulas of Tracy, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Doris; and one grandchild, Alex.
